Pregnancy and Baby-Prep is a Team Sport

The best way to prepare for baby is together. While moms naturally experience pregnancy firsthand, dads have just as much of a role in getting ready for this life-changing adventure. From researching baby gear to setting up the nursery, attending doctor’s appointments, and finding ways to bond with the baby before birth, there are countless meaningful ways for dads to be involved at this stage. The more engaged they are now, the more confident and connected they’ll feel when the baby arrives. Preparing as a team not only strengthens your relationship but also ensures you both step into parenthood ready to support each other every step of the way.

How to start parenthood as strong partners and with confidence

Becoming parents is one of life’s biggest transitions, and too often, dads feel like they’re on the sidelines—especially during pregnancy. But the reality is, preparation for parenting starts long before the baby arrives, and the more involved dads are now, the more confident and connected they’ll feel when the newborn stage begins.

Research shows that dads who actively participate in pregnancy and baby prep tend to be more engaged fathers from day one. So this post is for you, daddy to be, and how you can best prepare for welcoming your new family member. Pick out meaningful tasks, encourage emotional connection, and be part of the decision-making process, you’re not just preparing for baby—you’re laying the foundation for a strong, supportive parenting team. Long gone are the days where moms have to do it all, but dads are still often met with stigmatism around care work. Let’s set out to change that - together!

So how do you participate, take ownership and feel truly excited about this new chapter? Let’s dive in.

1. Take on Meaningful Baby Prep Tasks

Men want to participate but don’t always know how. While you can’t really share the physical load of pregnancy, taking the initiative to take over clear, purposeful responsibilities makes dads feel like they’re actively contributing rather than just “helping out.”

🛠 Set Yourself Up for Success with These Baby Prep Missions:

✅ Research & choose key baby gear (strollers, car seats, monitors). Anything baby tech related tends to get them excited in our experience.
✅ Set up the nursery—assemble furniture, baby-proof, and organize essentials.
✅ Take charge of logistics—plan the hospital route, install the car seat, and create a checklist for hospital bag essentials (at least for yourself).
✅ Research & book baby prep classes or infant first aid and CPR courses– level up your skills together for peace of mind
✅ Learn hands-on skills—diaper changes, bottle prep, babywearing, and soothing techniques, learn do’s and don’ts ahead of time so you don’t scramble when you are stressed at home with a crying newborn.

🚀 Why This Matters: These aren’t just “to-do” items—they’re building confidence and familiarity before the baby arrives, so dad feels capable and ready from day one. It also shows moms that they have a true partner to rely on after baby arrives, somebody who can share the mental load because they know what needs to be considered.

2. Create Emotional Connection Before Birth

For moms, pregnancy is a 24/7 experience. For dads, it might not feel “real” until they see the baby. The good news? There are plenty of ways to emotionally connect with the baby before birth—which makes the transition into fatherhood much smoother.

💬 Ways to Strengthen the Bond Early:

  • Talk, sing, or read to the baby in the womb—babies recognize voices! It might feel awkward at first, we get it but it’s quality time for your growing family.

  • Feel baby kicks and follow along with pregnancy milestones. What size fruit or vegetable is your little one right now? Did they grow fingernails yet? Why are hiccups important? Discuss and enjoy those learnings and developments together as a team.

  • Go to prenatal appointments together to see ultrasounds and hear the heartbeat - learn about symptoms to watch out for in your partner to ensure they are healthy and comfortable.

  • Start a dad journal—writing thoughts, excitement, or future letters to the baby.

  • Take prenatal classes together (especially ones focused on newborn care or birth support).

  • Talk about the birthing plan – labour and birth can feel intimidating. It is a huge deal. Discuss what mom envisions this to look like and what support she wants but stay flexible when she totally changes her mind once the day has come.

🚀 Why This Matters: Emotional connection before birth makes it easier for dads to feel naturally engaged after birth. The more involved they are now, the more instinctive it will feel later.

3. Get Genuinely Excited for Fatherhood

Pregnancy is full of planning, but it should also be full of anticipation and joy. Finding ways to celebrate the journey together helps dads embrace the excitement instead of feeling overwhelmed or disconnected.

🎉 Ways to Build Excitement:

  • Plan a babymoon—one last getaway before baby arrives.

  • Make a “baby bucket list” of fun things to do before birth.

  • Choose a special dad role—maybe he’s in charge of bathtime, bedtime stories, bottle prepping or babywearing.

  • Split the day - is there a certain time frame where you take care of all the feeds and changes so mommy can get some rest?

  • Research dad-friendly parenting communities, podcasts, or books for inspiration.

  • Plan paternity leave and maybe a first vacation together.

🚀 Why This Matters: A positive mindset about parenting and fatherhood sets you up for a more eager and proactive role.

4. Approach Parenthood as a Team

Once the baby arrives, teamwork is everything. Dads being proactive and involved now means that when sleepless nights and diaper blowouts hit, they’re already in the game and know exactly what to do.

🤝 How to Set Up a Strong Partnership:

  • Discuss how to split newborn duties (feeding, changing, nighttime routines).

  • Set realistic expectations—parenting is a learning curve for both of you.

  • Normalize asking for help—supporting each other makes you stronger parents.

  • Agree on self-care time for both parents—because dad’s mental health matters too!

  • Check in with each other–what’s working and what needs improvement. This can evolve just as quickly as your baby changes.

🚀 Why This Matters: The transition from partners to parents can be really tough for both parents. Open communication, despite the sleep deprivation, being supportive and empathetic helps both to settle into this new role. For dads, this isn’t about “helping”—it’s about co-parenting from day one.

The Takeaway: Parenthood is a Shared Adventure - embrace it

When dads are actively involved in baby prep and pregnancy, they step into fatherhood feeling confident, capable, and emotionally connected. That early involvement translates into a stronger partnership, a smoother transition into parenting, and less potential for conflict and resentment. You are a team and with any teamwork, it’ll be successful when there’s open communication and a fair distribution of responsibilities.

Parenting is better, stronger, and more rewarding when you do it together—so start now, build that bond, the journey ahead is wild and beautiful!

Ignite Imagination on the Go

Worried about too much screen time? Glüxkind’s smart strollers offer built-in audio entertainment—like stories, music, and white noise— to soothe them to sleep or to engage your child’s imagination and keep them entertained without screens. Turn every stroll into an opportunity for creativity, learning, and peaceful nap time on the go and at home!

How your Glüxkind stroller helps you to prevent the screen zombie trap

Are you concerned about screen time? Does it sometimes feel like handing your little one a phone is the only solution when you're out running errands and their patience runs thin? Are you searching for ways to entertain and distract them without relying on a screen—something that's always at your fingertips and impossible to leave behind?

We felt the same way!

That’s why Glüxkind’s smart strollers come with a built-in entertainment pack that evolves as your child grows. Let’s dive a little deeper into why we want to limit screen time and how built-in audio entertainment in our strollers can ignite creativity during your errands in the neighbourhood and improve nap time on the go.

Why is screen time bad?

Screen time—whether it's a TV, tablet, phone, or video game—can turn kids (and adults) into screen zombies, negatively impacting their eyes, brain, body, and relationships. Even tech leaders like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates famously limited screen time for their children, recognizing the risks.

The Canadian Paediatric Society advises no more than one hour of screen time per day for kids aged 2-5, and none for those under 2. Excessive screen use has been linked to speech delays, poor sleep, lack of physical activity, anxiety, reduced creativity, increased aggressions, and lower social skills, turning kids into passive consumers rather than imaginative creators— all that during a time of their life where creativity is really at its peak.

Screen-Free Entertainment Matters More Than Ever

What if your stroller could help you break that cycle and establish audio as a key entertainment medium? Glüxkind’s strollers have built-in speakers that play stories, music, or even calming white noise. No extra device needed as you leave the house. Imagine the simplicity of keeping your child engaged without defaulting to screens, fostering their imagination and curiosity with every stroll through the park or around the neighbourhood.

In the early days, white noise or lullabies help settle your little one and extend their naps in noisy environments. With audio entertainment onboard, your child can immerse themselves in enriching content without the need for screens.

Whether it's an exciting audio adventure story, their favourite tunes, imagination meditation or calming white noise, stroller walks can become opportunities for imaginative play, learning, and quiet reflection—all while exploring the world around them.

Naptime on the Go: A Seamless Transition

Any parent knows the challenges of nap time while on the move. Our strollers with built-in audio can offer familiar cues, like specific songs or stories, to create a smooth transition to sleep, just as you would at home. This means fewer battles and more peaceful outings, as your little one settles down to the same comforting sounds they associate with rest, that help them drift off into dreamland, no matter where you are.

Escape the Screen Trap—Embrace the Power of Audio

Even educational content isn’t a magical cure. Studies show that screens aren’t effective learning tools for babies and toddlers. Young children learn best through face-to-face interactions and benefit most when parents co-view and engage with them.

The danger is that too much screen time can make kids reliant on entertainment, turning them into passive consumers rather than powerful imaginative creators. As a parent, be a role model! Exercise daily, eat well, limit mindless scrolling, and showcase good habits. Play games with your kids in the real world, encourage daydreaming, read books, and explore creative alternatives like the Majik Kids App.

Mastering On-the-Go Naps

The Glüxkind smart stroller ensures the perfect sleep environment everywhere you go, offering consistency in your baby’s naps no matter where you are. Its rock-my-baby feature provides soothing, rhythmic movement to help lull babies to sleep, much like a car ride. Built-in white noise speakers block out distractions, creating a consistent and calming auditory space. With a bassinet and lay-flat seat, along with large canopies for darkness, it’s designed for comfort and better naps—keeping your baby's sleep routine steady, wherever the day takes you.

How Glüxkind Simplifies Nap Time for Your Baby (and You)

As parents of little ones, we know that good sleep often makes the difference between thriving and surviving. As a mama of four, the owner of Sleep Baby Consulting, a daycare, and founder of the Lizzy Sleep app, I am spending nearly all my waking hours helping families achieve better sleep.

The perfect nap

Wherever your busy life takes you, whenever your little one needs it.

For newborns especially, I typically focus on when a baby should be napping rather than where. While a bassinet or crib at home in a controlled environment is ideal, it’s not always practical for families who have to be out and about or have multiple kids. Good naps are still essential for a baby’s day and immensely contribute to their overall well-being, cognitive and physical development. Last but not least they give you as the parent a much needed break - whether that means getting some rest yourself or time to knock some things off your to-do list.

How do you combine these two things? How do you help your baby get good naps without being tied to your home?

The key is helping your baby have as ideal an environment as possible when sleeping on the go. Ideal means darkness, white noise, cool temperature, a safe space, and a comfortable flat surface. It’s not always practical, but the more of these you can do, the better you are setting your child up for success - and their success in sleeping directly translates into your success of taking care of yourself and your other priorities. For babies in the 'fourth trimester' (the first 3 months of their life), this might also mean rhythmic movement, reminiscent of the gentle rocking they experienced in the womb. Any parent whose kids seem to fall asleep so much easier while in the car or on a stroller walk can attest to this!

How can you create consistency while out and about?

The Glüxkind smart strollers are a wonderful tool to help parents create that ideal sleeping environment on the go or at home.

  • The consistent, gentle movement available through the rock-my-baby feature is great for all babies but can be particularly beneficial for fussy babies who struggle to settle down. By providing a comforting and familiar sensation, the stroller can facilitate quicker and more restful naps. It can easily be turned on either via the Glüxkind app or simply with a push of a button on the handlebar of the stroller. The app lets you adjust the rocking movement from slow gentle swaying to quicker jiggles according to your baby’s preference.

  • White noise machines have also become a staple in nurseries for good reason. They give babies signals for sleep while blocking out environmental noises. Having a white noise machine on the go creates a consistent auditory environment that can mask sudden, disruptive sounds like traffic, conversations, or barking dogs. With the white noise speakers integrated into the Glüxkind smart stroller, it offers a seamless transition from nursery naps to naps on the go. And it’s one less thing to remember when leaving the house and carry in your diaper bag. This continuity is key for maintaining sleep associations and routines, ensuring that the baby feels secure and comfortable, no matter where they are. If your little one has a specific song or story that cues them in for their nap, no problem - the bluetooth speakers will let you stream whatever content you wish to play for your child.

  • Glüxkind’s strollers also offer a bassinet for newborns who can’t sit up yet in a chair. This is good for safe sleep and similar to a mini crib.

  • As your child grows out of the bassinet, the stroller seat will continue to allow your baby to fully lay flat when taking their naps on the go.

  • The extra large canopies on both the bassinet and toddler seat allow you to fully enclose the stroller to provide a darker environment while maintaining safety, breathability, and a cooler temperature to help your child sleep. You don’t have to try to jerry-rig a blanket over the stroller. Often, darkness is the difference between a single cycle nap (~30 minutes) and connecting multiple sleep cycles for a nap of an hour or longer.

The Glüxkind smart stroller is a great option for parents who are on the go and want to create ideal sleeping environments for their kids while reducing the number of things you have to bring with you when leaving the house or going on a trip.
